On Thursday 10th September during their physics lesson the Y10 students were collecting live data of traffic travelling 325 m along Mittraphab Road. They were in sight of a speed camera near the Outlet shopping centre, but recorded the times of various vehicles by taking observations from a pedestrian footbridge. They used their data to work out the speed of various vehicles and using other measurements they also calculated the acceleration of lorries, trucks, cars and vans as they pulled out from the service station. They completed their trip by analysing their data in the safety and comfort of MacDonalds. They concluded that according to their measurements more pickup trucks compared to other vehicles were exceeding the speed limit. That was followed by some discussions of what factors affect either acceleration and stopping distances. The students collaborated well to record, analyse and discuss with due regard for safety in the "outdoor" setting.
