Following the English system students spend Years 12 and 13, when they are aged 16 to 18, in Key Stage 5. During these years all students study A Level courses for which they take the AS (Advanced Subsidiary) examinations at the end of Year 12 and the A2 (full A Level) examinations at the end of Year 13.
All students are expected to study 4 subjects in Year 12 for the AS examination. Students then carry on with any 3 of these subjects in Year 13 for the A2 examination.
Students may choose any combination of subjects from those offered by the school. They are given a considerable amount of advice over which subjects to choose depending upon their abilities, interests and both university and career aspirations.
Subjects currently offered at A Level are: art, biology, business studies, chemistry, design technology, English, geography, IT, Mandarin, mathematics, further mathematics, psychology and physics.
In addition to their A Level subjects all students also have non-examined classes in Physical Education and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education).
