On Wednesday 21 February the Key Stage 4 Biology and Geography students visited the Lam Takhong river to conduct field studies. The geographers measured the speed of flow and recorded data for the river profile. This was used to relate to erosion and deposition theory. For the ecology topic in biology the biologists compared random quadrat surveys with line transects for biodiversity estimations. They also trialed several techniques to measure abiotic factors such as light intensity, humidity and soil temperature. All these skills help the students prepare for their IGCSEs.
