VEX IQ Squared Championships
After winning the Vex IQ Scrimmage tournament in December 2019, the SISKY VEX IQ robotics team returned to St. Andrew’s Bangkok on Saturday 11 January 2020 with high hopes of winning the National Championships. They started off strong with a rare 100-point round, which ended up being the highest round score of the day. After the first couple of rounds they stood in first place. They consistently scored well and worked well with their team alliances. By the end of the qualifying rounds, they were 2nd out of all primary teams and 4th out of all fourteen teams. As a result of Matthew and Freshy’s precise coding, the robot did well in the autonomous mode component. Pin and Bryan were able to shine in the driver skills challenge. As media managers, Eve and Meiji directed a must-see, high quality video production. During the team interview component, the team members gave detailed, cohesive answers. At the end of the day, the awards were announced… but the team fell just short of winning the Excellence Award and an invite to the World Championships in America. However, there was indeed reason to celebrate as they were awarded the very prestigious Judges Award—an amazing achievement on only their second competitive outing. The exuberant young SISKY team cheered proudly as they ended the season with a bang. Everyone will now eagerly await the announcement of the new game and rules in April for the upcoming 2020-2021 season.
