From Wednesday 15th to Sunday 19th March, 17 students from Year 8 and 1 student from the Khao Yai campus competed in the U13 FOBISIA Games, hosted by Garden International School, Rayong. The competition consisted of a full day of athletics followed by swimming and two days of football and basketball with the boys and girls competing separately.
On the first day of competition, we had reasonable success in the athletics, with nearly all students winning at least one medal. In total we achieved 26 medals: 5 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze. After a long morning of athletics and despite competing against some very strong swimming schools, we managed to win 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in the swimming.
Athletics and swimming were always going to be difficult, however the team's main focus was basketball and football. This proved to be correct, as during the second day of competition the girls won all their games in football without conceding a goal, therefore finishing in first place and winning the gold. After a few close games, the boys went on to win gold in basketball, again winning all their games.
The third and final day was very tough indeed, with the boys in particular carrying a few injuries from basketball the previous day. Despite this, the boys fought extremely hard in the football but unfortunately lost their last game, finishing 3rd overall and winning the bronze medal. Even though the boys did not manage first place, all coaches and parents were extremely proud of their achievements.
The girls continued where they had left off the day before, by going on to win all their games in basketball, meaning that they won another gold medal. This was an amazing achievement by all the girls and was fully deserved as they displayed excellent attitude and team spirit throughout the competition.
Overall the tournament was a great success and the students are already looking forward to competing in the U15 FOBISIA Games in Phuket, October 29th - 2nd November 2017.
