Last week, Year 10 students visited the Khong Kone Mangrove Plantation Centre at Samutsongkram Province.
As soon as they arrived students changed into a t-shirt and shorts, ready for the muddy day ahead. Centre staff introduced students to the history of the mangrove centre, and the great importance mangroves provide. This included protecting nearby populated areas by reducing erosion, and absorbing storm surges that could damage the coastline. They are also important to the ecosystem, being nurseries for countless animal species.Students waded in the mud and planted many mangroves trees, ensuring that the good health of the mangroves continued for future generations.
