Secondary Years

Welcome to the Secondary School section of the St. Stephen’s International School, Bangkok campus, website. I hope that you find it informative and interesting.

We are extremely proud of our Secondary School. We are an inclusive school with big ambitions for our students, excellent academic results, and we know what each individual student needs in order to thrive. We encourage our students to grow intellectually, think independently and become responsible young adults. Academic rigour is coupled with our superb pastoral care so that each and every student is supported to develop his or her full potential. Our mission statement “Leadership in the Making – to Create Tomorrow’s Leaders Today” underpins what we do, and student’s leave us with the skills required to tackle the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Our teachers’ superb subject knowledge and passion for their subjects means that our students regularly win national and international prizes for their IGCSE, AS-level and A-level examination performances.

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) students follow the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC), an internationally-minded, concept-focused curriculum that helps students to develop further the intellectual tools and passion for learning that they need to continue their educational journey from primary school.

In Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), the Cambridge International GCSE (IGCSE) programme builds on the foundations of Key Stage 3. Students are now given a choice over which subjects to continue to study (usually between 8 or 9 subjects). There is a wide choice of subjects to cater for all interests and maintain a breadth of study whilst still allowing time to explore each subject in more depth.

The Sixth Form (Years 12-13) at St. Stephen’s follows the Cambridge International A-level curriculum allowing students to specialise in 3 or 4 subjects. Alongside this, they follow an enrichment programme that prepares students for their next phase of education, whether here in Thailand, or at any of the other prestigious universities anywhere in the world. The unique St. Stephen’s ethos of “East meets West” ensures that students are prepared for life in any country.

As a truly inclusive school, all of our teachers are expert at supporting students for whom English is a second language (ESL) and we offer bespoke English lessons for those who may need a little more English support. For those students with a specific learning requirement, we can usually offer individual support outside of the classroom environment.

We expect all students to participate fully in our diverse extra-curricular programme. St. Stephen’s provides a full and varied package of extra-curricular activities that challenges students to develop all aspects of their lives on the sports’ field, on the stage and in the community. We encourage them to explore, question, and embrace the challenges that come their way. Our school is not just a place of learning; it is a place of growth, discovery and transformation. We hope our students will step outside of their comfort zones, and push the boundaries of their potential.

We are a very open school and I would be very happy to meet prospective parents at any time.

Mr. Neil Hayward
Head of Secondary
