Loy Krathong (ลอยกระทง), also named the Festival of Lights, is a famous floating lantern festival in Thailand. The date of the Loy Krathong Festival changes every year as it takes place on the night of the full moon of the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar, typically falling in November. St. Stephen's celebrated Loy Krathong as a whole school, starting with students, their parents and staff gathering for the National Anthem. All then processed to the field; the parade a wonderful riot of colour. Students in Primary and Secondary made their own krathongs from banana stem and leaves, flowers and candles, to be floated in the evening. Early Years children floated krathongs in the paddling pool. The history of Loy Krathong was explained in an assembly with traditional dance and music, marking this most auspicious day in a very special way.
